Jorge Rivera-Herrans upholds the tradition of classic storytelling in a modern forum by building an immersive world of music, theatrics, and performance born online. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Jorge forged this connection to music through video games and animation. He taught himself how to play the themes from Kingdom Hearts II on piano. For as much music as he consumed and performed, he initially intended to pursue a career as a doctor. He studied medicine at University of Notre Dame until his passion called too loudly to ignore. Under the influence of musicals and Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, he started to write what would become his musical EPIC during his senior year. Originally, he used it as his senior thesis as an excuse to work on it in class, applying for grants to venture to Ithaca where he would conduct research in-person. The Pandemic forced him to skip the flight and move into an apartment with his mom and dad. In 2021, he posted a snippet of “Full Speed Ahead.” It unexpectedly went viral, kickstarting his creative process into gear. Nodding to the aesthetic of anime, maximizing the power of social media, and delivering the ultimate homage to The Odyssey for a new generation, he architected the arc of EPIC in real-time, producing the music, playing the role of Odysseus, and sharing the nine-EP collection over the course of five years. Along the way, he notched #1 debuts on the Billboard Top Compilation Albums Chart, Billboard Cast Albums Chart, iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart, and iTunes Top Soundtracks Albums Chart. Amassing billions of streams, toppling charts, and building a global community of ardent fans with his nine-EP musical EPIC, he continues to tap into the magic of stories with more music to come.
